THE CHILD OF
THE
SUMMER SUN

By Josie Whitehead

Child of the Summer Sun

The child of the summer sun
     Scampers free with the wind in her face;
She runs on the sand which tickles her feet -
    Reaches out for the world’s embrace.

The child of the summer sun,
    With the sun’s warming rays on her cheek,
Sees the glow of new life stretching far out ahead
    And feels cool summer sea at her feet.

The child of the summer sun
    Has a lifetime of work yet to come.
Cling on to your childhood as long as you can
    For your life has barely begun.
