THE SOVEREIGN SEA

Sovereign Sea (The)

She steals along a golden shore
     Beneath a sombre leaden sky.
Thundering waves both crash and roar,
     Withdrawing with a whispered sigh.

But her emotions, we know well,
Will shift and change at lightning speed
And then her waves will rise and swell
With urgency that meets her need.

Fathoms deep beneath her waves,
And far from human sight or reach,
Abandoned wrecks and human graves
Each rot in their secluded niche.

The inconstant nature of the sea,
     With other elements combined,
Show clearly, both to you and me,
     Their strength above we humankind.
