JOSIE'S POEMS

Autumn Poems

By Josie Whitehead

Dry Leaf
Time to Let the Summer Go
Leaf

It’s time to let the summer go
And time for autumn winds to blow.
      It’s time to shake off summer’s leaves
      And find dry homes for harvest sheaves.

It’s time to let in misty morns
And draw back the awakening dawn;
     It’s time to drop the ripening fruits -
     Send migrating birds upon their routes;

Clear up the leaves, plant bulbs for spring;
Sing harvest hymns – come loudly sing!
    Thank God for autumn’s golden glow,
    Forerunner of the winter’s snow.
